Text: The British Isles

The British Isles are located in Western Europe. It is the geographic term that refers to all the islands: Great Britain, Ireland (North and South), the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
Great Britain is the name of the island which is made up of England, Scotland and Wales.
The United Kingdom is the legal name of the nation. It refers to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (Ulster).
Southern Ireland (Eire) is completely independent and the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not parts of the United Kingdom. The British are the people who live in the United Kingdom.
